Drake Maye is the best player in college football whether you’re ready to admit it or not

It’s time college football fans pay more attention to North Carolina quarterback Drake May.

As college football enters week 10, Heisman’s conversation centers on quarterback CJ Stroud of Ohio State and Hendon Hooker of the Tennessee Volunteers. The two signal callers are on two undefeated soccer teams looking to conduct the college football game, after all.

But when it comes to the midsection that’s really under the radar, this is North Carolina’s Drake Maye. After Sam Howell was announced for the NFL draft and picked by the Washington captains, the freshman got a starting job this year, and he’s been really impressive.

Last Saturday against the Pittsburgh Panthers, May threw for 388 yards and five touchdowns while completing 34 of 44 pass attempts in North Carolina’s 42-24 win. He also ran for 61 yards on 14 buggies.

With this latest performance, Maye has stats that show he’s one of the best quarterbacks in the country.

Drake May proves he is the best midfielder in the nation

As the ACC Network tweet above shows, Maye already leads Stroud and Alabama’s Bryce Young in total touchdowns and yards per game. But wait, there is more.

Maye is also the first midfielder in Tar Heels history to run five games in a row with over 300 yards passing.

There is perhaps a more impressive statistic than the one shown above. Maye is now the third quarterback in FBS history with an average of 300 yards per game and leads the team in a hurry. The only other two players to have done this are Johnny Manzel and Patrick Mahomes. This code comes courtesy of ACC Network.

In the year, May completed 71.3 percent of his passes for 2,671 yards and 29 touchdowns, while throwing only three interceptions in the year. May also scored 439 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 98 buggies.

Maye has a chance to make it six games in a row with over 300 yards, as the Tar Heels face the Virginia Cavaliers.
