Updated photo of the AFC play-off, Wild Card standings after the Chiefs beat the Titans

Let’s check the pulse on the AFC Picture and Wild Card standings after the Chiefs beat the Titans in overtime at Sunday Night Football.

Perhaps the biggest game of the week in the AFC was saved in prime time on Sunday night. The Chiefs and Titans met a ton on the line regarding the NFL Playoff and the showdown didn’t disappoint.

The bets were simple: Kansas City and Tennessee met alone in possession of the No. 2 AFC seed on the goal line.

Kansas City needed a win to avoid losing another major tiebreaker to an AFC rival as well as maintain a distance between the West Asian side Los Angeles Chargers. Tennessee needed a win to continue to prove itself despite playing without AJ Brown and with a backup quarterback under position.

Buffalo’s defeat by the Jets on Sunday heightened tension in Sunday’s game and increased the importance of whoever ended up winning.

The AFC play-off picture has been updated after the Chiefs beat the Titans on Sunday Night Football

It was the Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes who ended up winning, despite the Titans playing great football nearly the entire game. Give Tennessee the credit, as she entered Kansas City and almost came away with a win with rookie quarterback Malik Willis leading the way.

Willis barely threw the ball in week nine, completing five passes for less than 100 yards, but the Titans scored 17 points and dragged the leader into overtime.

However, when it came time to play Big Boy Football, the Titans shrank. After the chiefs marched down the field and kicked a field goal, Tennessee’s lack of passing game reared its ugly head and ended up costing them.

Even with the win, the Chiefs still lags behind the top-ranked bills. Buffalo beat Kansas City earlier this season, sealing the tiebreaker in the Asian playoffs picture. The margin for error in the bills became narrower on Sunday.

Here’s what the Asian qualifying bracket would look like if the qualifiers started today:

  1. Buffalo Bills (6-2)
  2. Kansas City Chiefs (6-2)
  3. Tennessee Titans (5-3)
  4. Baltimore Ravens (5-3)
  5. New York Jets (6-3)
  6. Miami Dolphins (6-3)
  7. Los Angeles Chargers (5-3)

Based on these arrangements, here’s what the playoff matches will look like in the first weekend of the event:

  • (2) Kansas City Chiefs vs (7) Cincinnati Bengals
  • (3) Tennessee Titans vs (6) Miami Dolphins
  • (4) Baltimore Ravens vs (5) New York Jets

AFC play-off scenarios

With so many teams tied in the standings, few play the tiebreak based on various factors related to the schedule.

  • The Ravens win the tiebreak over Cincinnati based on head-to-head win percentage.
  • The Bengals holds the Miami tiebreak based on a head-to-head win percentage.
  • The Dolphins hold a tiebreaker over New England based on their head-to-head win percentage.
