The past year or so for Cubs fans has been tough. Several fan favorites have disappeared from the photo. However, there is still a chance that the team will retain players like Ian Hap and even Wilson Contreras. Aside from these two, we can even see someone like Anthony Rizzo enter the picture again.
However, there are bigger free proxy goals for them to consider as add-ons. These three are most important to them to add, and in order of how badly the front office needs to be brought to Chicago.
3) Cubs Free Agent Goal Carlos Rodon is an important piece to add to the spin
Why do Cubs fans love the idea of signing Carlos Rodon? It’s not just about sticking it with the Chicago White Sox.
Rodon is better suited to the Cubs than any other top-tier player at the start of the season. He turns 30 in December, which puts him at an age where the Cubs won’t necessarily have to win with him on the roster in 2023 – something they’re unlikely to do anyway.
Rodon is the type of bowler who can get a five- or even six-year contract. The Cubs, who can use more stability in their turns and arm in their prime, need to look at Rodon aggressively this season.
While some football clubs are looking to pay Jacob deGrom or Justin Verlander a fortune to hang out for a shorter period of time, Cubs should have the future in mind. Rodon went 27-13 with a 2.67 ERA in his last 55 major championships spanning from 2021 to 2022. His best days could be ahead.
The Cubs, in the process of building a better football club, must stick to the players most likely to become an ace within three years. This removes DeGrom and Verlander and puts the focus and perhaps the third best player: Carlos Rodon.
