The Atlanta Braves should steer clear of these three free agents at all costs.
Things didn’t go quite as well for the Atlanta Braves as they hoped in 2022. Their triumphant return to the Eastern National League late in the season felt similar to the year before when they won it all. Luck ran out for them when the sweltering Philadelphia Phillies unexpectedly met them at ALDS.
The brave will have a chance to regroup. This includes players’ rest and plenty of activity from the front office. Even a 101-win team can improve.
In the sea of free agency, there are players there are players the brave must target and others they must stay away from. These three need the brave ones to get away from them at all costs.
3. The Braves should stay away from JD Martinez and any other 1D player
The Braves already have a player like this and we hope he won’t last long. Marcel Ozuna is more of a DH than anything else. He charges a lot of money to see his game time dwindle and his reputation continues to be tarnished.
Atlanta should be in the market to add a seasoned racket. However, someone like JD Martinez should be moved easily. The same goes for anyone else who no longer plays on the field at all. Sorry Nelson Cruz.
Martinez had a good year with the Boston Red Sox in 2022. The problem was that his strength numbers had dropped dramatically. Does this mark the end of his reign in MLB? He hits good but without the power he’s not that dangerous. The designated hitter needs to provide the squad with a home run threat. This isn’t Martinez anymore.
The brave can go in the direction of keeping William Contreras as the primary DH while also holding him occasionally. It’s a little unorthodox but it seems to be doing well enough in 2022. Whatever their decision, there is no need to spend on players who no longer have a position.
