Anthony Rizzo and 3 other Yankees free agents deserve to be signed

Anthony Rizzo is just one of the New York Yankees free agents the Houston Astros should consider signing this offseason.

The Houston Astros are in hot pursuit of New York Yankees free agent, first baseman Anthony Rizzo. After being swept by the Yankees in the ALCS last month, Houston looks set for another win against their biggest opponent in the American League.

Rizzo’s steal could be a big move for the Astros. This will improve their first base position, which is vacant due to Yulieski Gurriel’s free agency.

Rizzo isn’t the only Yankees free agent worth signing. Along with him, Houston should also consider these now three other former Yankees.

1) The Astros should consider signing Yankees free agent Andrew Benintendi

Rizzo will replace Gurriel at first base. Could Andrew Benintendi replace Michael Brantley in left field?

The two players are somewhat similar. They do not rely on strength like many players in this position. Houston can get enough of that from Yordan Alvarez, Kyle Tucker and others and Benintende will be a starting left fielder next year and beyond.

Yankees fans hardly recognized Benintende as one of them. He got at least a year’s trade deadline, and appeared in just 33 regular season games for them. He was injured during the short-lived post-season.

A lifetime .279/.351/.431 hitter, Benintendi will bring with him similar qualities to Brantley. He, too, is only 28 years old. And while he may lack the strength he showed in 2022, he could be someone to recapture pop music in the future. He has averaged 16 home runs per 162 games in his career. Achieving five last season in his 126 games is probably more than a prediction for the future.

Because of his age, Benintendi comes with much lower risks than some of the other options available. The Astros wouldn’t pay him in his mid-30s. Benintendi is a free agent signing the Astros who can win now and let someone else move forward with caution when he gets close to the end.
