Chase Sherman Jokes New Fight Name Should Be ‘Short Notice’ (VIDEO)

Chase Sherman takes on Waldo Cortes-Acosta in their heavyweight bout on Saturday at UFC Vegas 65.

Two weeks ago, Chase Sherman lost an opportunity to compete at UFC Vegas 64 when his opponent, Josh Parisien, pulled out due to health concerns. Sherman will return to the octagon this weekend at UFC Vegas 65 against Waldo Cortes-Acosta instead.

“Mick [Maynard] knows how i am. FanSided’s Sherman told Amy Kaplan at UFC Media Day. “They’ll soon call me Sherman from now on. You need a fight, just call me.”

Sherman’s focus is now on his opponent, Curtis Acosta. The newcomer is coming off a short turnaround, as he competed less than a month ago at UFC Vegas 63, where he defeated Jared Vanderaa.

“He’s a real opponent of the game, and I think he’s going to bring out that dog in me,” Sherman said. “I think he’s definitely a much more dangerous fighter. The other fight, I was really looking forward to that fight. I mean, I’m looking forward to this fight don’t get me wrong, but the one I’ve been training for 8 weeks. I planned a field day with this fight, I was really excited.”

Chase Sherman still wants a future fight with Josh Parisian

Although Sherman would gladly accept a fight with Curtis Acosta, his recently canceled bout with Parisian is a fight Sherman still hopes will happen one day. Sherman expressed doubts about the circumstances surrounding the last-minute cancellation of his scheduled fight with the Parisian.

I am not a doctor, but I have read the sayings he makes. To me, it looks like he might have had an anxiety attack, but whatever. Sherman said. “My coach came back in there shaking his head, he’s like ‘be nice.’ I’m trying to be nice now because that was really frustrating. I didn’t get to see my kids for two months, and then the fighting stopped and I had to call my son and tell him I wasn’t coming home.” for another two weeks.”

Despite the change in opponent and his perceived elevated level of danger from Cortes-Waldo, Sherman does not believe he needs to deviate from his original plan of play.

“In the grand scheme of things, it’s about the same as I plan to do,” Sherman said. “The big difference is that they are skilled in different areas and flawed in slightly different areas, so finding the key points of attack and training is a little different.”

The hardest thing for Sherman, besides not seeing his family, was not the stylistic change of the opponent. Moreso, that was the price his hectic travel and training schedule had caused.

“Your sleep and your training are huge, especially as part of your recovery. Getting that circadian clock back into its rhythm and ready for combat was kind of weird, I think,” Sherman said.

“Going forward for another three hours, going back three hours, and then doing it all over again… It was a great set.”
