Giants offensive coordinator arrested for DUI after win over Packers

Arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol on Friday morning.

Downing was pulled over by the Tennessee Highway Patrol in the early hours of November 18. He went through the receiving process at approximately 4:36 AM Cairo time before posting the bail at 6:46 AM local time. His DUI and speeding arrest came after a flight back to Nashville from Green Bay. The Titans improved to a strong 7-3 on the season by defeating the Packers Thursday in prime time, 27-17.

Tennessee had the best offensive performance of the season with 408 yards of total offense.

Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator Todd Downing arrested for DUI

Downing’s arrest certainly overshadows one of the Titans’ best wins this season. Although the Packers struggled mightily this year, falling to 4-7 in a defeat of Tennessee, the Titans extended their lead over the AFC South. Barring a few unexpected meltdowns down the stretch, the Giants should win the division crown again fairly comfortably.

However, Downing’s arrest would take advantage of all the positive momentum generated by the Packers’ game in Nashville. Tennessee will not play again until November 27 when it hosts the defending champion Cincinnati Bengals. It was the Bengals that eliminated the top-seeded Titans from the AFC Divisional round before the postseason, a terrifying home for Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill.

Ultimately, Downing was better off going home or waiting outside than getting behind the wheel. It must have been one plane ride home after the game on Thursday night. Unfortunately, this puts Downing back in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons. He arguably had his best game as the Titans’ offensive coordinator since taking over from Arthur Smith.

Downing and the rest of the squad need to shut down and see how deep they can go in the AFC.
