Auburn gets hosed off by umpires in jammed punt review at Iron Bowl (VIDEO)

The Auburn Tigers were the victims of a controversial punt review call against the Alabama Crimson Tide.

The Auburn Tigers have been in the news regarding who their next head coach will and will not be. Whoever it will be, Auburn is looking to finish its regular season on a high note by defeating the Alabama Crimson Tide in the annual Iron Bowl.

There was one call that was the subject of controversy.

Late in the second quarter, Alabama’s James Burnip sent a 47-yard punt to Auburn running back Qent Scott, who appeared to fumble the ball. The Crimson Tide recovered and regained possession. But during the review, CBS grammar analyst Gene Strator noted that the football did not change direction when it fell and it appeared as if Scott missed the football entirely.

After revision, the play stood as it is called. Alabama recovered from the fumble. Take a look at the play and judge for yourself.

The call almost automatically stung Auburn. Already trailing 28-14, the Tigers watched as their deficit increased four counts later after Crimson Tide quarterback Bryce Young hooked up with Trayshawn Holden for a 27-yard touchdown.

Auburn was first on the scoreboard after a 24-yard touchdown run by quarterback Robbie Ashford. From there, the Tigers surrendered 21 unanswered points on a five-yard run by Young, a 10-yard touchdown reception by Jase McClellan, and a five-yard run by Roydell Williams.

The Tigers would cut the lead to 28-14 on a touchdown pass from Ashford to Jaffarius Johnson. But then, Alabama scored twice before halftime.

Not an ideal day for Auburn. Fans are sure to look back on this muffled punt call.
