The Bears are leaning toward making the right call with Justin Fields injured

The Bears reportedly don’t want to make Fields’ injury worse, so Trevor Siemian will likely start in Sunday’s game against the New York Jets. This would be a wise decision as not allowing Fields to get proper rest time could make his injury worse and risk long-term effects.

The Bears had the best chance of success with Justin Fields

Fields hasn’t been the best quarterback all this season, but he’s still consistently shown improvement and his recent rise has proven to be a necessary piece of the team’s future. He’s been a key player for the past two seasons, while Siemian and Nathan Peterman have been in backup roles. They also haven’t started much over the past few seasons, so it’s a bit of a risk to run the possibility of keeping Fields out for longer than he needs to.

Fields has improved since last season, too, and while he may not be on the level of some of the NFL’s biggest stars, he’s definitely growing in his role as a starter.

Since last season, his completion percentage has improved from 58.9 to 59.6, yards per pass from 6.9 to 7.2, passer rating from 73.2 to 86.2 and quarterback rating from 31.4 to 54.4. He’s making great showing improvements, and is Chicago’s most promising quarterback.

Siemian, on the other hand, has only played eight games since 2017 and Petermann has only played two since 2018. There’s no telling if they’ll get it together or not start until he’s fielded, but the Fields show promise and the Bears are right to let him heal normally. Right.
