If Atlanta Braves free agent Dansby Swanson ends up signing with one of these teams, prepare to be sad.
Dansby Swanson and the Atlanta Braves may break up this season. After 827 games played, 3,387 plate appearances, and 775 starts, Swanson’s time in Atlanta may be approaching. He is one of the most discussed free agents. He’s a candidate to come back or break the hearts of Braves fans and go down somewhere else.
Some of Swanson’s free agency destinations won’t immediately bother Braves fans. Let him go to the Chicago Cubs. Signing up with the Seattle Mariners won’t be so important to Braves fans until they face off in the World Series.
However, Braves fans may have a sense of heartbreak in other locations. These three spots will be particularly painful. Swanson may return to Atlanta next year representing a different soccer club. I hope it’s not one of these three organizations.
1) Braves fans will be heartbroken to see Dansby Swanson sign with the Phillies
The Philadelphia Phillies have been on the market for a short time this off-season. Swanson is not one of the candidates rumored to be linked to Philadelphia. In fact, the other three have far more ties to the team.
Trea Turner is a former teammate of Bryce Harper’s. Xander Bogaerts is someone Phillies executive Dave Dombrowski knows well from his time with the Boston Red Sox. Carlos Correa is simply more agile than Swanson.
There is no guarantee that the Phillies will land any of these three. If they miss, could Swanson become a target?
It’s definitely something the Phillies should consider. A Swanson pass away from the Braves could help them. This isn’t the NFL so there’s no rule book he’d bring with him to Philly. However, there will be a sense of revenge when the two teams play each other. Swanson is one of several long-term Braves center fielders who did not get an extension. Being able to go up against them a lot in the National League, and going forward might be the best way to present it to them nice and cold.
