Draymond Green addresses Lakers trade rumours

You may have heard rumors that Draymond Green would like to be traded to the Lakers. Well, he just answered all of that himself.

Between his unresolved contract extension, pre-season altercation with Jordan Paul and a more than expected start to the Warriors season, you can tell if Draymond Green is reconsidering his long-term future with the team. There were rumors before the season even started He might be interested In a deal with the Lakers.

Green recently spoke with Andscape from ESPN For an extensive interview one of the topics that came up was Lakers rumors.

What did Draymond Green say about the trade to the Lakers?

This is a relative exchange from an Andscape interview.

What can you say about the rumors you might be interested in being traded to the Lakers?

I never said that. People can say whatever they want. I’m also not a person who reacts a lot, one might say. I react to things when I want to respond to them. I don’t react to things just because someone said them.

That sure seems to shut things down somewhat definitively. When asked if he would be interested in playing his entire career with the Warriors, Draymond added:

“There are five players who have been in the squad for 11 years or more. We have three of them [along with Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson]. It’s a very rare thing. There are 470,480 players in the NBA? There are five men who have been with his team for 11 years or more. It is amazing. So, you don’t just give up on that. So, I would definitely be interested in that.

If given the opportunity, you would enjoy the opportunity.”

Even if Green is interested in the trade and even if the Warriors are willing to entertain one, it’s hard to imagine the Lakers have enough to get it done. The Lakers will either have to send Russell Westbrook to the Warriors and get another big contract alongside Green to make the payroll work. Or they’ll have to gather several contributors like Patrick Beverly, Lonnie Walker, and Kendrick Nunn. Even if the Lakers include draft picks, these scenarios will be hard to swallow for Golden State.

Green has a player option for next season and could theoretically opt out and sign with the Lakers. But he would leave $25 million on the table and probably take a decent pay cut even if it was with a longer deal. Either way, Draymond in a Lakers uniform looks unlikely.
