One team is surprisingly unheard of in the Aaron Judge lottery

When it comes to Aaron Judge’s sweepstakes in free agency, there is one team that has been quiet.

Since the conclusion of the World Series, the focus has been on the famous free midfielder Aaron Judge. After turning down a $213.5 million contract offer from the New York Yankees preseason, Judge had a historic season, hitting 62 home runs and winning the AL MVP award in convincing fashion.

So far this season, we know that the Yankees have offered Judge a new pitch, and that the San Francisco Giants met him over Thanksgiving weekend. But one team that no one has ever heard of is the Los Angeles Dodgers.

As Dan Martin of the New York Post wrote in his recent articleThe Dodgers’ interest in entering the Judge’s sweepstakes is “unknown” as of Wednesday, November 30.

The Dodgers are surprisingly quiet in the Aaron Judge lottery

Baseball fans are used to Dodgers jumping into the market looking for the best players across the board. Whether that’s a trade for outfielder Mookie Betts from the Boston Red Sox, the acquisition of Max Scherzer and Trea Turner at the 2021 trade deadline, or the signing of former Atlanta Braves starting quarterback Freddie Freeman last winter.

John Heyman of the New York Post brought up the Dodgers who wanted to cut some of their $290 million salary, while also talking about how they would need short notice with Turner coming to free agency and potentially ordering a massive contract.

Judge has reportedly already received an eight-year, $300 million contract offer from the Yankees, but could increase it depending on how much the Giants drive the market, Per ESPN MLB insider Jeff Bassan (subscription required).

Not only that, but Bassin says the judge is expected to agree to the terms of the contract by the conclusion of the MLB winter meetings, which begin on Sunday, December 4th and end on Wednesday, December 7th.

We should get an answer about the Dodgers’ involvement during the Winter Meetings.
