The Atlanta Braves will need to respond to the signing of Justin Verlander with the New York Mets.

So the New York Mets decided to replace Jacob DeGrom with Justin Verlander?

This meant that the Mets replaced an old, often injured, ace pitcher with another. Then again, Mets owner Steve Cohen is seeking a breakaway in an effort to bring a World Series winner to Queens. The thinking exercise here is to load Hall of Fame-level pitchers who were alive the last time the Mets won the whole thing. With no comebacks from 1986, what do the Atlanta Braves have to do about it?

3. Either sign a writer or redeemer, preferably one who was not born in the early 1980s

On the technical side, the Braves were competing with Verlander, just as they were with DeGrom. While the starting rotation is mostly under-30s, Charlie Morton will return for another season as he approaches 40. Chuck is a legend and helped the Braves win their first World Series in 26 years due to a broken leg, so I’ll hear no defamation of the elder statesman in turns!

What I would suggest is either consider signing a rookie pitcher who has no memories of the George H.W. Bush administration or a relief pitcher who can’t remember where they were when OJ Simpson’s Ford Broncos were trolling the 405. If Alex Anthopoulos wants to bring in running back Kenley Jansen, well , I’ve got a. Then again, let’s give Max Fried the pay raise he deserves.

Look for the Braves to do something with the staff in the wake of Verlander’s signing.
