Jerry Jones talked about how the Dallas Cowboys met with Odell Beckham Jr. to assess his fitness as a free agent on Monday.
Odell Beckham Jr. is set to make a free agency decision soon. Having completed visits with the New York Giants, Buffalo Bills and Dallas Cowboys (in that order), Beckham will reportedly decide on a midweek team.
The free agent would go on to win the Super Bowl with the Los Angeles Rams last season. He tore his ACL in the big game after scoring a goal and has been recovering ever since.
Beckham’s relationship with the Cowboys has felt strongest all along, but a pure connection won’t get things done, even if his appearance alongside the other Cowboys at the Mavericks game Monday night makes it look like a done deal.

Jerry Jones was very cautious in his speech on Tuesday morning, hedged along the way saying there are a lot of variables at play:
However, the tone is clearly positive and Beckham seems to like the idea of playing in Dallas if the terms of the contract are right.
But as the conversation went on, Jones expressed concern that he hadn’t seen Beckham in action:
This is an apparent shift from the overly optimistic tone Jones took in radio appearances previously to influence Beckham’s visit to Dallas in the first place.

Oddly enough, though, Jones wouldn’t even give a yes or no as to whether Beckham could actually play this year:
This is an interesting development, and it may end up being nothing at all. But this, plus Beckham’s apparently long delay in ‘game form’, creates some stalling with Beckham.
He reportedly wants a multi-year contract, so any team that signs him hopes he’ll only be a productive member for more than a year. Beckham’s addition was previously thought to be a Super Bowl move, and that doesn’t appear to be the tune Jones is trading here.
Again, we’re really reading between some of the lines here, and this is far from difficult. At this point, we only have a few days left before we find out where Beckham will end up, which should lead to more information about his playing status for the rest of the year.
If he were to play, the Cowboys depth chart would be a lot stronger.
