UFC 282: Elijah defeats Topuria Bryce.
Ilia Topuria defeated Bryce Mitchell via submission (arm triangle choke), Round 2 – 3:10 at UFC 282 on Saturday, December 10, 2022, live from T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas, Nevada.
“I want to fight for the title next. If not, let’s go to Spain. Let’s do UFC Spain. Before I got in, I knew I was better than him. Stand up, on the floor, all over. I saw the opportunity and made it,” Topuria said.
UFC 282: Bryce Mitchell vs. Ilia Topuria: Round-by-round summary
The fight started with immediate action as Topuria caught Mitchell after Mitchell delivered a kick. Topuria landed a powerful leg kick, which caused Mitchell to change position. Topuria landed several sharp blows. Mitchell was stuffed on his first takedown attempt but landed a body kick and a combination right hand. Mitchell opted for a one-leg takedown and Topuria finally stumbled. However, Topuria was able to return immediately. Topuria hit a strong punch to the body. Mitchell changed levels and was able to drop Topuria onto his back. The first round ended with Mitchell headbutting Topuria.
Topuria opened with his right hand and blocked a takedown attempt. Mitchell landed another body kick and landed a straight left but was stuffed again. Mitchell got a combination that he finished with a header. Topuria Mitchell dropped a header. Topuria jumped on top of Mitchell and landed a side control elbow. With Mitchell back on his feet, Topuria landed some big shots. Topuria went down big as Mitchell was coming in for the takedown. The Mitchell pie toporia controls the position of the body. As Mitchell made his way to the knee, Topuria locked in a triangle arm choke and put Mitchell back to the canvas. Mitchell forced out.
Mitchell and Topuria entered UFC 282 as two of the brightest rising stars in the division. Both fighters entered Saturday’s fight with undefeated records. Mitchell put his foot in the Octagon with a 15-0 record with nine hits. While Topuria scored his third straight knockout in his last fight, improving to 12-0 with 11 finishes.
Topuria would rank Mitchell ninth in the UFC featherweight rankings. The Georgian fighter will likely battle one of the fighters ranked higher in front of him as he looks to get closer to the title fight. Mitchell will look to recover from his first career loss in his next fight.
