The Chicago Cubs need to respond after losing Carlos Correa, and some of the holes in their uprights are glaring.

The Chicago Cubs have made some relatively minor moves so far off the season, like signings Cody Bellinger and Jameson Taillon. Both are certainly useful, but they must be paired with a marquee player in order to get access to the championship level roster the Cubs are trying to build.

So, is this kind of player available for Jed Hoyer & Co. to sign? And if it is, will the front office have the resources to pull the trigger?

Like most seasons, the Ricketts have insisted that Hoyer has their blessing to make such a signing or trade. However, Hoyer has yet to do so, leaving some fans to wonder how sincere the ownership is in their commitment to winning in the near future.

Cubs move to make: Dansby Swanson

The Cubs have the resources to land Dansby Swanson, and they have a hole in the middle of their home ground. A perfect match, Swanson has been rumored to be in Chicago all winter.

Swanson’s marriage to Chicago Red Stars and USWNT star Mallory Pugh makes the fit even more obvious. Sure enough, Dansby wants roughly $200 million of the $100 million the Braves gave away last spring. Atlanta seems intent on replacing Swanson with Von Grissom, if it must.

Dansby is the last of the four primary stops on the free agent market. After it, there is a significant drop. Swanson sectioned 277/.329/.447 last season with 25 home runs and 18 stolen bases. It was the best offensive season of his career, and earned him his first All-Star appearance.

It is not surprising that he aspires to the highest.
