Patriots defensive end Matthew Goodon doesn’t believe the drug tests he’s asked to participate in are random.
New England Patriots defensive end Matthew Goodon is putting up another quality year. There’s a good chance he can get his fourth straight Pro Bowl appearance and third straight representing the Patriots.
Goodon has 26 quarterback hits, which is already the second-most in his career with several weeks left. He is also on pace for the most combined tackles in a single season of his career.
His fine performance caught the attention of not only Patriots fans, but perhaps skeptics as well who wanted to make sure there was nothing wrong with giving him a little extra juice.
Matthew Goodon calls the NFLPA for repeated random drug tests
There is a running joke that players who play well tend to be “randomized” for drug tests soon after strong performances, which leads to a mistrust that drug tests are in fact random after all.
Goddon adds to this conspiracy theory with a recent tweet:
“Dear @NFLPANFL Leave my F alone please. There is no way this is random. I take melatonin for sleep sometimes. The rest is just feelings.”
The tweet included a screenshot of a text message informing Godun that he needed to be tested.
Previous calls to tests are not actually random usually He has good taste and is meant with a sense of humor, but Gudon seems really frustrated with the process and targeting simply because he plays it so well.
Thomas Morstead, the Dolphins punter who pulled the “ambush kick” in Super Bowl XLIV for the Saints, poked fun at the process himself in 2019, but also bedded any doubts since he was on the NFLPA’s executive committee:
the exams Likely random. But Godun’s condition and frustration make you think twice about it…
