Eastern Michigan vs. San Jose State and Beck predictions

Eastern Michigan Eagles @ San Jose State Spartans | current best odds

Eastern Michigan Eagle
San Jose State Spartans

San Jose fell as the season ended, and I don’t trust them to forecast inclement weather in Idaho, as snow is likely in the forecast. San Jose State’s defense faltered as the season wound down, allowing 27 or more to the likes of Utah State, San Diego, and Nevada in the last five games of the season.

While Eastern Michigan is far from an elite offense, the team is doing well on the sidelines, 29th in third offense and top 10 in touchdown percentage in the red zone. Overall, the team is 31st in success rate.

The Spartans have tremendous defense that is 25 yards per game and allows less than 2 points per drive. This is a unit built around their defensive line, top 20 in sacks and peak yards allowed per game, but I don’t trust this offense to stick after allowing 40 sacks on the year and having no ability to run the ball (121st in yards per carry).

With bad weather in store, I’ll be looking down at a game that could quickly turn into Fighting Rock given how bad San Jose has been lately.

Freedom vs. Toledo to predict and choose

Liberty Flames @ Toledo Rockets | current best odds

The flames of freedom
Toledo Rockets

I know no one wants to trust Liberty after being thrashed by another top 10 team in the country in New Mexico State, but I make this game a slog, and I see very little difference between the two teams.

For starters, Liberty’s defense will be the best unit on the field, eighth in success rate and 13th in EPA/Play. Toledo’s offensive line will struggle against Liberty’s elite defensive line. The Flames defense has the most tackles for loss in the country this season. The Rockets are 115th in tackles allowed for loss and 91st in line.

We don’t know for sure who will start at quarterback for Liberty, but Kaidon Salter has proven to be the most effective of what has been an impressive collection of QB’s this season. A dual threat Salter will be able to rip the playing pieces against a Rocket defense outside the top 100 in explosive run rate and the bottom 10 in red zone touchdown percentage allowed.

While the Freeze left for Auburn, not many players picked or made it to the transfer gate with the successful Jamey Chadwell coming from Coastal Carolina. With a little bit of backtracking, I think NMSU’s recent losing score along with the Toledo conference title stirs up a lot of positive vibes in this game.

I will play against her and consider the flames to be underdogs.
