Dansby Swanson explains the emotional attachment to the cubs

Star Shortstop Dansby Swanson has officially joined the Chicago Cubs, and the move has been more meaningful to him than most people might realize.

The Atlanta Braves failed to secure an extension for superstar Dansby Swanson, and the Chicago Cubs eventually signed him to a seven-year, $177 million deal. While it’s sad for the Braves to start a season without him, he shared a heartfelt connection with the Cubs that can’t help but get one excited about their new ride.

Swanson remembers his childhood and how his late grandfather would always watch the Cubs, his grandfather’s second favorite team, when he came home from school. He described the move as being able to play for his grandfather’s two favorite teams, which is heartwarming for sure.

Chicago could certainly use Swanson, and it looks like they would welcome him with open arms as he has the potential to become one of the best players for the Cubs. The private connection is bound to make the Swanson experience more rewarding, too.

Unfortunately, the Cubs have struggled to relive the 2016 success that led them to win the World Series. The core of this team has disintegrated, and the list is being turned over more and more every year. This season, Wilson Contreras was next to go, which certainly left a huge gap on the roster.

There were many other problems before Contreras’ departure, and they could have improved both offensively and defensively. Swanson is an above-average hitter, slashing .277/.329/.447 for an OPS of .776 during the 2022 regular season. He’s also a great defenseman coming off one of the best seasons of his career with his best wFB of 16.0, WPA 1.66, an OAA of 20 and a WAR of 6.4.

While Dansby wouldn’t be the answer to all of the problems on the team, it would certainly be a huge step forward in creating a new championship team.
