The strange job title for the new Guardians coach hints at priorities for 2023

The Guardians have become a full company with their latest coaching job title, but it hints at what’s even more important for 2023.

A great job title is a clever way to make a job seem more glamorous or important than it is. for example, “Facilities management technicianIt could simply be the same as a ‘janitor’.

The Guardians go full company with one of their new coaching appointments and his job title. But while most fancy job titles are blank, this one might sound right and give some clues about what’s always important to the team in 2023.

New Guardians coaching title hints at priorities for 2023

The Guardians had surprising success last year, leading the New York Yankees to five complete games in the preliminary round of the playoffs despite having one of the lowest payrolls in the league. With this success, some of their coaches received well-deserved promotions and moved to other teams, leaving the slots that the team filled with AAA coaches.

One of the roles they held was “running production coordinator” which I assume is synonymous with “offensive coordinator” or “offensive coach”.

Jason Esposito, who was the Guardians’ AAA hitting coach before that, takes on this stellar job title and new role. While it’s easy to view this job title as a lot of words that simply mean “offensive coach,” it does indicate something important: running is bone Something important, and a lot of the nonsense about offense doesn’t matter if it doesn’t translate to players touching the baseline.

Cleveland scored 4.23 points per game last season which was halfway through, 19th in the MLB. The team was actually sixth in the American League, but it did so by handling plays that weren’t flashy. They ranked 14th in home runs in the American League. But they finished sixth in the league and third in the AL in triples per game.

In their series against the Yankees, remember, they scored two runs or fewer in three out of five games, including just three runs across the last two games the Yankees took to come back and win the series. Scoring just one run in Game 5 to take the Series is not something they can repeat this year.

Esposito’s most important achievement is illustrated by his identity and job title with the team: the points total.

The Guardians’ big casual move was adding Josh Bell who has the ability to bring a lot to the table offensively. He, unfortunately, struggled in the second half of last year with San Diego and had a lot of double plays. But his .936 OPS record in 2019 with the Pittsburgh Pirates hints at what the Guardians are hoping they can get by adding to their exciting young roster.
