Jerry Jones delivers the definitive OBJ update that will break hearts

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones appears to have given a definitive answer regarding the team’s prospects of signing free agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.

Since then, after Thanksgiving, all eyes have been on free agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.. He made visits with three teams about possibly signing a contract with them for the rest of the season. One such team was the Dallas Cowboys, who were openly recruiting him, even during their own games. But after meeting with the Super Bowl champion wide receiver, no deal was struck.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones enjoyed Beckham’s epic, going from being negative about the team’s chances of signing him, to making it look like he was going to finalize the deal. But Cowboys fans who wanted Beckham in the playoffs won’t like Jones’ latest comments.

After Dallas’ 40-34 win over the rival Philadelphia Eagles on Christmas Eve, Jones was asked for his latest update on the Beckham saga. Jones said it was “not realistic to think of him being in a meaningful way in the playoffs.” But Jones did not rule out signing Beckham in the future.

Jerry Jones provides a downbeat update on Odell Beckham’s contract talks

More than a week ago, Jones told USA Today privately that “Odell will be joining us,” giving Cowboys fans hope that the deal will pan out.

Then, earlier this week, Jones sounded more pessimistic about the addition of Beckham, saying that “we don’t have anything,” and that each day that passes diminishes his playoff odds.

Now, Jones doesn’t seem very confident that Beckham will ever join the Cowboys for the remainder of the season.

The Cowboys made a move wide, signing former Indianapolis Colts star TY Hilton to a one-year contract. Hilton made an impact in his first game with the Cowboys in Week 16, putting up a massive 52-yard reception on a third down and 30 tackle on the Eagles.

The Dallas wide receivers had a big day against the Philadelphia minors. Hilton had his huge reception on his one goal. CeeDee Lamb caught 10 of 11 targets for 120 yards and two touchdowns. Michael Gallup recorded four receptions for 36 yards and a touchdown on seven targets.

This was certainly a game that should inspire confidence as the Dallas team greeted the final stretch of the season.

As for Beckham, it doesn’t look like he’ll be joining the Cowboys, based on Jones’ comments. Of course, anything can change.
