Denver Broncos Nathaniel Hackett fired 15 games in his first season, but is he considered among the worst coaches in NFL history?

Another year, another coach fired without completing his first season; This time, Nathaniel Hackett was the head coach of the Denver Broncos.

Hackett received notice from Broncos ownership the Monday after Christmas saying they had decided to move on. Honestly, this might be the best thing for Hackett. He takes a lot of blame for the way things went this year, but he’s not 100% responsible.

The debacle of the season, a first in the Russell Wilson era, has been so horrific so far at Mile High City that even Broncos Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe, who loves to talk, is forced to keep quiet about the team. Win one rings.

Speaking of Wilson, he has a lot to answer for, but that’s another topic for another day, and somewhere, the Seahawks are laughing. But the story is getting murkier. After the announcement of Hackett’s exclusion, social media lit up, with some tweets stating that Hackett is the worst coach in NFL history.

Not so fast. Worse than Urban Meyer? Bobby Petrino? David Shula? Bill Petersen? Rich Cotette? Rod Marinelli? Hugh Jackson? worse than these guys?

It’s easy in this day and age to see success and failure and make assumptions automatically. But Nathaniel Hackett isn’t the worst coach in NFL history. A record of 4-11 despite only 15 games played, is an embarrassing number. However, the argument can be made that Denver was deceived into believing Aaron Rodgers was leaving Green Bay to join Hackett, the former Packers assistant at Mile High.

But a record alone doesn’t make you a worse coach, despite what Bill Parcells once said. So who’s on the list, and who’s making the cut? This is answered starting with #5.
