3 Phillies will leave after the 2023 season, and who will replace him

These three Philadelphia Phillies players are free agents after the 2023 season and should not return after next season.

The Philadelphia Phillies have some Notable free agents Off next season with the leader being Aaron Nola. The longtime Phillies starting player has been optioned for the 2023 season, allowing the club another year to assess what they’re worth and whether or not they should continue the relationship. Considering how much his ability marksman gets paid this winter, the sooner he extends it, the better.

Nola isn’t alone in next year’s category of free agents hitting the open market from the organization. Both newcomers and long-term workers have expired contracts.

NOLA should be a priority for the Phillies to keep. These other three are more interchangeable. We should expect them to go after the 2023 season. They can already get a picture of who will replace them.

1) The Phillies will transfer and promote Rhys Hoskins to another position

Love it or hate them, Rhys Hoskins is one of those slackers. He lets out a ton but makes up for it with walking. His defense is terrible but he will hit a big home run and regain his faith.

The Phillies first baseman will come into the 2023 season with a .242/.353/.492 slash. As productive as he can be at times, the Phillies are better off moving on from it. They have many first basic options on the list already. Whether it’s moving Nick Castellanos or Alec Bohm there, Philadelphia can find a new first baseman without making a move.

However, the Phillies should look to make a huge splash elsewhere. When Hoskins leaves, the Phillies need to get involved in the heavy third base market next winter.

Rafael Devers and Matt Chapman are two of the best pro players in the third basemen next winter. Manny Machado also has a cancellation in his contract. Any of the three would be a dream addition to the Phillies. Chapman might make more sense, likely costing the least of the three and giving the team some amazing defense.

Hoskins is very similar to the other players on the Phillies roster. Allowing him to walk for a Gold Glove nominee gives them something a little different.
