Things get really serious going into Survivor Pools entering Week 17, when most people have probably used a lot of their top teams and are hoping to find an upset, or short favorite, to carry them into the final week of the season.

The BetSided team only went 2-2 with our picks in week 16, but we’re hoping to sweep things away and get you into week 18 harmlessly.

Let’s dive into this week’s picks:

If I’m still alive in my survivor pool, I’ve been spinning the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for Week 17, so that’s what I’d recommend this place to anyone smart enough to stay away from it for the majority of the season.

They can clinch the NFC South with a win over the Panthers this week, and if one day Tom Brady decides to look like Tom Brady again, it’s this week against Carolina.

Their defense can match Carolina and hopefully cause Sam Darnold to see ghosts again. If you still have them, it’s finally time to take Tampa Bay in your pool. – Ian McMillan

Even though they lost in Week 16, the New York Giants are close games, and have a chance to seal themselves in the playoff picture with a win in Week 17.

New York meets Nick Foles and the Indianapolis Colts, who scored just three points in Week 16 against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Jeff Saturday has no idea what he’s doing in the quarterback with this team, and Indy has gone into the tank in recent weeks. With Jonathan Taylor finishing the season and the Colts’ offense unable to move the ball, the Giants are an easy pick to beat at home for Survivor. – Peter Dewey

Chicago Bears
Detroit Lions

I feel slightly bad even thinking of the Detroit Lions as a survivor late in the NFL season, but given the circumstances, as well as the location of the game, this is the correct game for my remaining options on the plate.

Detroit faces the Chicago Bears, who find themselves closer to being able to get the first pick in the draft next year. Justin Fields has no one to throw to, and his best corner in Jaylon Johnson is now injured reserve for the year. Justin Fields continues to develop well in Chicago, but he held his lowest rushing production of the season last week against Buffalo in heats one in Chicago. This game plan is something the Lions could use to their advantage after allowing 147 yards on 13 carries and two touchdowns from Fields last time out.

Meanwhile, the Lions’ offense is putting up much higher numbers at home. Jared Goff has 20 TDs to 3 INTs at Ford Field, compared to a 6:4 ratio away from Detroit. They also average more complete yards per home run attempt than their knock numbers.

I could have been in San Francisco or Philadelphia this week, but given the uncertainty over Jalen Hurts’ availability, as well as the potential desire to take on the 49ers battling for a playoff seed against a home-broken Arizona Cardinals in Week 18, I’ll hold my nose. And he took the lions to get it done. – Ben Hessler

Yes, Detroit needs this game to stay in the NFC Wild Card race and that sometimes leads to exaggerated spreads, but we just need an outright win and I love the Lions to bounce back in this game against the Bears who are 29th in the EPA/play since week 10, when The lions rallied to stun the bears and start their hot streak.

While the Lions are 25th in the same stretch in defense, the difference on offense is clear. Including the Week 10 game against Chicago, the Lions are 2nd in EPA/Play during this recent heater while the Bears are 25th in this metric.

Chicago is quietly living with the first pick this spring and has no incentive to win. The Lions roar home and keep their playoff hopes alive. – Reid Wallach
