CJ Stroud received death threats after Ohio State lost to Michigan

Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback CJ Stroud has opened up about the threats he received after the team lost to Michigan in November.

College football fans are a serious bunch, especially in Columbus. But after Ohio State lost to Michigan in November, some of the Big Ten faithful went too far.

There is no place for baseless threats in sports, let alone college football. These kids are not technically pros yet. It’s just a game.

In the aftermath of Ohio State’s loss to Michigan β€” in which she threw Stroud twice β€” some fans allegedly sent death threats to the future first-round pick. That’s it for every Stroud mom, who admitted the fact Sports Illustrated this week.

“I don’t really look, but people have the audacity to call me and talk to me and tell me what people say,” Stroud said Thursday. β€œIt’s in the nature of a beast. You accept the good with the bad. I thank God for a second chance in this game. We deserve to be here no matter what happened that day.”

Clearly, the actions of a few rogue fans do not reflect all Ohio State or Michigan supporters, by no means. However, it does speak to how seriously some take this rivalry. It can be unhealthy sometimes.

Stroud knows what he signed up for when he took over at Columbus. He is arguably the best quarterback in the country. These moments – however bleak they may seem at the moment – will better prepare him for the ridicule he will be subjected to in the next level.

Stroud and the Buckeyes face a tough test Saturday against the #1 Georgia Bulldogs. UGA is favored, though some expect OSU’s high-powered offense to provide the Dawgs with a unique test. It’s strength vs. strength in the CFP.
