Patricio Freire took on Clipper Koike at Bellator vs. Rizin on New Year’s Eve.
Patricio Freire met Clipper Koike in the semi-main event of Bellator vs. Ryzin to cap off 2022. Freire and Koike traded early in the first round, with Freire throwing some good body shots and dropping Koike on a few occasions. However, Koike managed some calf kicks in the first round and even managed to put Freire on the map with a beautiful judo throw he couldn’t follow through.
In the second round, Koike tried to keep his kicks at bay, which kept Freire at bay but only momentarily. Freire was able to work out the body and land a few calf kicks just like in the first, but this round was far less important.
The third round saw much more grappling but not yet much big action. Koike managed to land some powerful blows but Freire worked on Koike’s legs with powerful kicks and dominated most of the time on the ground.
Freire was awarded the victory via unanimous decision.
