Explanation of what Packers fans should do in Week 17

The Green Bay Packers aren’t dead yet in the playoff race, but here’s what fans need to be rooting for in Week 17 to keep postseason hopes alive.

Despite how disappointing the 2022 season felt, the Green Bay Packers are still in the NFC playoff race. After winning three straight wins, Aaron Rodgers & Co. finished 7-8 on the season and as part of the “In the Hunt” portions of the NFC standings graphics you’ve no doubt watched constantly on TV lately.

Having said that, Green Bay’s 4-8 start to the season gave the team absolutely no margin for error if they were to return to the playoffs at the end of the season.

Most importantly, Packers have no control over their own destiny. Currently behind the Giants, Chiefs, Seahawks, and Lions in the standings, Green Bay needs some help if they want to make it to the postseason. So as they head into Week 17 and a game against their rival Vikings – Minnesota won the first meeting 23-7 in Week 1 – here’s what the Cheeseheads need.

Players’ Final Match scenarios: What fans have to cheer for in Week 17

While Green Bay does not necessarily Should it win both of its last two games to reach the playoffs, the team’s simplest path to the postseason begins with that. So in week 17, the game begins with a tie with their rivals for the season and a win in Lambeau over Minnesota.

This shouldn’t be too difficult because fans have already been doing this.

From there, the path to continue the easier path for the team is for either the Chiefs to lose one of their remaining two games or the Giants to lose both of their remaining games while Green Bay wins.

To keep those two doors open, Packers fans should become honorary Colts and Browns fans on Sunday afternoons. New York hosts a struggling Indianapolis 4-10-1 while Washington hosts a 6-9 Cleveland team.

Again, if some of this doesn’t happen, that doesn’t mean Green Bay is dead. But if, say, the Pack wins while Carson Wentz’s Washington loses to the Browns, then the Packers will have to beat the Lions in Week 18 to punch a postseason ticket.

one week at a time. This is what the team needs in the seventeenth week.
