Marvin Harrison vs. Kelly Ringo A decisive battle in the first half of the Peach Bowl

Marvin Harrison Jr. has emerged as a senior receiver for Ohio State in 2022, and he’s matched against last year’s National Championship Game champion, Georgia defensive back, Kelly Ringo.

Not only can head-to-head matches in a very big college football game become great for fans to watch, but they can also play a huge role in defining the game. We might have such a match-up in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl semifinal game.

Ohio wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. He became quarterback CJ Stroud’s favorite target, and with good reason. Harrison has the size, speed, height, and road running ability that mirror what his father used to do in the NFL.

The job of keeping Harrison under wraps for most of the first half was handed to Georgia linebacker Kelly Ringo, who caught Bryce Young’s pass in last year’s national championship game to seal Georgia’s win.

To be honest, Ringo might wish he didn’t draw this assignment.

Marvin Harrison Jr. made an early comeback on Kelee Ringo after the first half of the Peach Bowl

Harrison made his way through the first half of the game, hauling five times for 106 yards and two touchdowns. Neither Ringo nor the rest of Georgia High School could find a way to keep Ohio State’s standing in check.

It’s hard to cover a future like Harrison, but when there’s no pressure on a quarterback who can then take his time to find the open man, it becomes a near impossible task. Stroud fought his way out of the pressure the Georgia defense mustered, and managed to find Harrison in the best of times for the Bulldogs.

Will the second half of the game be more similar? Ringo may have to start jamming Harrison at the line more than playing a 10-yard cushion at the snap. Ringo may also have to get some help from the Georgia coffers.

Without the ability to keep Harrison in check, Georgia will need to match Ohio State on offense and prevent the game from spinning out of control.

The Buckeyes and Bulldogs went into the second half of the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl with Ohio State leading, 28-24.
