Predictions and odds between the Lions and the Packers for Week 18 (Goff vs. Rodgers, don’t overthink it)

The Green Bay Packers rebounded from 4-8 with four straight wins, and now have a win-win game against the Detroit Lions in Week 18.

The Lions need a little help from Baker Mayfield and the Los Angeles Rams to keep their playoff hopes alive, but if the Rams defeat Seattle, the winner of this game is the #7 seed in the NFC.

There is a lot riding on this game and it can be bent on Sunday Night Football. Will Aaron Rodgers run the table again and get Green Bay into the playoffs? Vegas seems to think so.

Let’s take a look at the odds for this NFC North game at Lambeau Field.

  • Green Bay is 4-0 ATS in their last four games

Lions vs. Packers prediction and selection

Both teams posted dominant wins in Week 17, with Detroit beating the Chicago Bears 41-10 and Green Bay passing the Minnesota Vikings 41-17. Both have momentum coming in at 8-8 after a poor start to the season, but only one team has Aaron Rodgers. He didn’t have another MVP season this year, but as his thumb continues to heal and games continue to become more important, he continues to win.

The last time we saw Jared Goff in a must-have cold weather game at Lambeau Field, it didn’t go so well. The 2021 Divisional Round was Goff’s last game with the Rams, going 21/27 for just 174 yards and a touchdown in the 32-18 Packers win. He has also been fired four times.

In the same game, Rodgers threw for nearly 300 yards and two touchdowns. The Lions allow the most yards per game of any defense in the league, only worse than Minnesota, which the Packers just shredded.

The Lions were a very interesting team and a good story. I’d love to see a bunch of Dan Campbell knee snappers in the playoffs, but it’s almost impossible to get to the postseason with a defense this bad unless you have a really elite quarterback, which Goff wasn’t.
