Mike Tomlin wants to help Pittsburgh native Damar Hamlin in any way he can

Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin spoke about Damar Hamlin at his weekly press conference Tuesday with the media.

Dammar Hamlin is from the McKee’s Rocks area just outside of Pittsburgh, and played college football at the McKee’s Rocks University of Pittsburgh. Playing in Buffalo now, Burgh was his first home, and he represents him in everything he does on and off the field.

On the football field, Hamlin chose to stay home rather than attend top-ranked schools like Notre Dame and Penn State. The GoFundMe, which he started in college to help lead a game for the McKee’s Rocks kids, has reached over $4 million in donations as of this morning as football fans try to help in any way they can.

Mike Tomlin feels the same. Tomlin, who has known Hamlin since before his high school days, called Sean McDermott on Monday night and offered his help.

Almost every NFL team has offered condolences to the Hamlin family and the Buffalo Bills, but it’s different for Tomlin and the Steelers. Hamlin is one of them. As a resident of Pittsburgh and a freshman of the University of Pittsburgh, Tuesday is a sad day, as well as a nervous one while we await further updates.

As of this afternoon, Hamlin remains in intensive care at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. He’s been in critical condition since last night. The Bills, as well as Hamlin’s family, released statements saying they were “appreciative and grateful for the outpouring of support we have received thus far.”

We can only hope to get some good news on the Hamlin front sometime in the next few days. Regarding the Bills-Bengals game, which was postponed after Hamlin was injured, the NFL maintained that it was an afterthought at this time.

We’ll have more information on the state of Hamlin when it becomes available.
