Everything you need to know about Greg Berhalter’s allegation Claudio Reina’s involvement

A few weeks after the finals, the USMNT is in the midst of a scandal involving Greg Berhalter, Claudio Reina, and Gio Reina.

The US men’s national team scandal is straight out of a TV series, and it doesn’t end well for Greg Berhalter and the Rina family.

USMNT attacking midfielder Gio Reina didn’t get much playing time at the World Cup, leaving many fans scratching their heads. Reina plays for Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga, which is one of the biggest clubs in all of Europe.

On 11 December – which also happened to be the same day that Berhalter stated that a ‘player’ (apparently Gio Reina, as later confirmed by his agent) was almost sent home from Qatar for not meeting expectations on and off the field – Claudio Reina informed his wife Danielle NFL announced domestic violence allegations against a USMNT manager.

Allegations of Greg Berhalter

The allegations against Berhalter date back to 1991, in which he kicked his wife, Rosalind, in the legs. Berhalter has since acknowledged the event in a statement:

“In the fall of 1991, I met my soulmate. I was 18 years old and a freshman in college when I met Rosalind,” Berhalter said. “One night, while we were drinking at a local bar, Rosalind and I had a heated argument that went on outside. It got physical and I kicked her in the legs.”

Berhalter stated that he regrets his decision, but that he and his wife have long gotten over the incident.

Berhalter added, “The lessons learned from that night more than three decades ago became the foundation for a loving, loyal and supportive relationship, which we honored and celebrated on our 25th wedding anniversary this past weekend.”

Claudio Reina gets involved

Claudio Reyna is an American soccer legend and former national team player. He is currently the athletic director for Austin FC of the MLS. It is said that Rina’s wife, Danielle informed NFL for Berhalter’s alleged domestic violence incident.

“To make things right, (American football’s athletic director) contacted Ernie Stewart on December 11, immediately after news broke that Greg had made negative remarks about my son Geo at a leadership conference,” Danielle Renna said in a statement. “I have known Ernie for years and consider him a close friend. I wanted to tell him that I felt so angry and devastated that Gio had been put in such a terrible situation, and that I felt personally betrayed by the actions of someone my family had considered a friend for decades.”

Danielle Renna also claimed that the domestic violence incident suggested by Greg Berhalter in his statement was a “dramatic understatement (d)”.

Claudio Reina released a statement as well, saying that he supports his wife’s decision.

USMNT Camp January 2023: Who is Anthony Hudson?

American Football announced on Wednesday that Anthony Hudsonthe current USMNT assistant, will manage the team in January camp “with the ongoing investigation and full review of the USMNT post-FIFA World Cup 2022 team still ongoing.”

Hudson was an assistant on Berhalter’s staff for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Where does the USMNT go from here?

Given the drama of the past few weeks, it’s likely that Greg Berhalter’s time as manager of the US men’s national team is coming to an end. Berhalter may have been on his way out, however, as some reports suggested he had brainstormed to run a European club.

The incident in question occurred more than 30 years ago. Berhalter, his wife, and the Reina family are fully involved in the American football investigation, and we hope they come to a conclusion soon. It’s a sad end to what used to be a successful USMNT World Cup tournament.
