UConn vs. Providence Prediction and Odds for Wednesday, January 4

The #4 UConn Huskies will try to bounce back after their first loss of the season tonight when they take on the Providence Friars.

The Huskies’ perfect New Year’s Eve record came to an end when they lost, 83-73, to Xavier.

Meanwhile, Providence will put its stellar 4-0 record to the test tonight as it attempts its seventh straight win of the season.

So, who will emerge victorious tonight?

Let’s dive into what the odds makers think and then I’ll give you a prediction for UConn vs. Providence.

UConn vs. Expectations of Care and Selection

Teams will have bad games from time to time, and that’s exactly what Yukon faced on Dec. 31 against Xavier. Let’s not put too much inventory into this specific performance, and instead rely on season long numbers.

UConn is simply one of the best shooting teams in the nation as it ranks 18th in effective field goal percentage at 55.7%.

The Huskies also do a great job of forcing opponents to turn, ranking 39th in opponent turnovers per possession.

But, with all that in mind, the real advantage they have is in how well the two teams defend against the other team’s strength.

Providence doesn’t mess with Three Points too often. The Friars are 42nd in college basketball in 2-point shooting average, with 69.6% of their shots coming from 2-point range. Now, they’re up against a UConn team that ranks 20th in two-point field goal percentage, holding back teams from shooting at just 44% from two-point range.

Meanwhile, the Huskies love to shoot from outside the arc, with 44.6% of their shots coming from three-point territory. That should work in their favour, as Providence struggled to stop the three-ball all year, ranking 165th in opposition three-point field goal percentage, allowing teams to shoot 33% from outside the arc.

I will be supporting UConn to win and cover tonight.
