Caleb Plant scores a massive knockout on Wilder’s card against Helenius on Anthony Dirrell.
The co-main event of Deontay Wilder’s fight against Robert Helenius was the elimination of the super middleweight title between the former champ Caleb (22-1) go up against Anthony Dirrell (34-3-2).
The fight wasn’t exactly classic in boxing, as there wasn’t a lot of movement. It was more than that that every man who spends his moments with Blunt gets the best exchanges. The fight was a bit rough, the referee was full of hands and he was looking forward to deducting a point if Deryl continued his antics.
Halfway through the fight, Plant coach Stephen Edwards told the former champion to ignore the crowd and continue boxing. Blunt did, but in the ninth round, there was a sequence that happened mid-range where he did up and down, which saw him land a huge left hook hitting Deryl. The referee didn’t bother counting because he knew Deryl had enough. Even after the fight was called off, Deryl needed medical staff.
Caleb Plant puts an exclamation point with one punch by knockout on Anthony Dirrell.
After the fight, Blunt said “This win felt good. I heard how much he hated me, but it was my head and my heart that won me this fight. I was in control the whole time. My coach told me to be patient and rest and that’s what we did. Then, boom! I’m ready for whatever.” Something. I’m going to spend time with my family, but then I’ll be ready for the biggest fights we can get.”
The Plant needed something big after failing to take on Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. This was more than a statement, and he himself thrust into a huge fight against either David Benavidez or Germal Charlo. Whichever, let’s hope the fight takes place in the first part of next year.
