The Champions League quarter-final draw constitutes an all-English semi-final for Chelsea and City… Liverpool may wait in the final

Chelsea and Manchester City are on the way to a Champions League clash if they reach the semi-finals.

The two teams met in last season’s final, where the Blues snatched 1–0 thanks to a Kai Havertz goal.

Now they can lock the horns again, this time in the turn of all fours, if they can cycle through the quadrants.

Chelsea and City face Spanish courts of inquiry, as the title holders battle 13-times champion Real Madrid.

Thomas Tuchel’s West London side will face Los Blancos, led by former Blues coach Carlo Ancelotti, at Stamford Bridge first ahead of the second leg at the Bernabeu.

After that, the English Premier League champions Pep Guardiola was again drawn to Atletico Madrid, who defeated Manchester United.

The Citizens will also enjoy a home advantage in the first leg – and they will do so again in the Round of Four if they qualify.

The winners of these ties will meet in the semi-finals to determine who reaches the final in Paris.

Tuchel’s team beat Real Madrid in the semi-finals last season with a 1-1 draw at the Bernabeu, followed by goals from Timo Werner and Mason Mount in a 2-0 victory over Bridge.

The two teams had previously met only in the 1998 Super Cup final, winning a Gustavo Pouillet goal with the Blues and the 1971 Cup Winners’ Cup final as Chelsea lifted the trophy after a 2-1 victory in Athens.

Remarkably, City have never played for Atletico before.

Liverpool left smiling after their foreign side faced Benfica in today’s draw at Nyon.

However, they are likely to overtake Bayern Munich in the round of four, with the return leg in Bavaria.

Jurgen Klopp’s men will have an advantage at home in the second leg but Anfield will then see the first leg of the semi-final, against Villarreal or Bayern.

Quarter-finals (5/6 and 12/13 April): Chelsea – Real Madrid, Manchester City – Atletico Madrid, Villarreal – Bayern Munich, Benfica – Liverpool.

Semi-finals (April 26/27 and May 3/4): Manchester City or Atletico Madrid – Chelsea or Real Madrid or Benfica or Liverpool – Villarreal or Bayern Munich.
