The Cleveland Guardians have agreed to a major extension with third base officer Jose Ramirez.
The day before the opening day of MLB 2022, the Cleveland Guardians were able to reach an agreement on a long-term contract extension with third All-Star Team captain Jose Ramirez.
ESPN’s Jeff Bassan reports that a five-year, $124 million contract extension has been extended. The deal includes a no-trade clause. Add to what he is set to offer for the 2022 season and the selection of the 2023 option, Ramirez will bring in $150 million in guaranteed money. The 29-year-old Dominican switch hitter is Under contract with Cleveland during his 35-year season in 2028.
There was a chance that if the two parties could not reach an agreement, it would be traded.

The AL All-Star has finished three inside the top ten in the AL MVP vote four times and returned three silver players in his nine seasons. He just started with the team.
No matter how nimble he is in his thirties, Ramirez has a chance to be an all-time player with the Cleveland franchise. If he plays to his level for the better part of his contract extension, Cleveland will retire with his No. 11 jersey. Although he has ways to go build his stats sheet to honor a potential Cooperstown one day, doing it all for one franchise will only help his cause.
As for what the future holds in Cleveland, patience will help. With the Chicago White Sox viable in the world championships, and the Minnesota Twins and Detroit Tigers on the Wild Card hunt, Cleveland would finally take it out in the AL Central with the Kansas City Royals. Again, this stretch is not about winning games in 2022, but preparing the Guardians for success in the future.
For Cleveland to pay anyone big money before rebuilding it, the franchise fully appreciates Ramirez.
