Irishman and former UFC champ Conor McGregor congratulates Katie Taylor on winning.
Conor McGregor is no stranger to big fights. The former two-division UFC champion fought several title fights over the course of his career, including becoming the first concurrent UFC world champion in the featherweight and lightweight divisions.
Similar to McGregor, Katie Taylor had her moment in the sun, too. In a 10-round boxing war against the Puerto Rican legend against Amanda Serrano, Taylor made a difficult but controversial decision.
That’s when McGregor took to Twitter to congratulate the six-team world champion, as Ireland secured another belt once again.
“The Greatest Katie Taylor! Absolutely incredible boxing!
Take the ladies’ bow! What a contest,” McGregor wrote after the fight.
At the time of this news release, the tweet has quickly gained global attention, having crossed 1,000 retweets and 12,000 likes since it was sent.
Katie Taylor’s rematch against Amanda Serrano is a possibility
Don’t rule out Taylor-Serrano 2. Both women brought up the question during in-episode interviews after the fight, and mutually agreed that it would make a lot of sense. Although nothing is official, given Taylor’s popularity in Ireland, Eddie Hearn and Jake Paul have shared encouraging words about a schedule regarding the rematch. Both men will be looking to target September or October for Round 11, if things go their way.
“Let’s bring it back to Ireland,” said Paul. Hearn is open to hosting the fight at Croke Park in Dublin during the early autumn months.
Hearn also praised the two women even though his fighter achieved victory.
“I just watched one of the greatest fights in Madison Square Garden history,” he said during a post-fight interview.
It’s safe to assume that Taylor and Cyrano captured the world, and those who believed that women’s boxing would never become dominant in a single major event in New York City were proven wrong.
