3 Moments You Missed From Sunday Night Baseball’s Win

The New York Mets completed their sweep against the Philadelphia Phillies, and they did so on Sunday Night Baseball.

There was a lot going on on Sunday, May 29th. There was Game Seven of the Eastern Conference Finals between the Boston Celtics and the Miami Heat. There was the All Elite Wrestling pay-per-view event, Double or Nothing. But, there was also a baseball game Sunday night between the New York Mets and the Philadelphia Phillies.

New York had the opportunity to complete the offensive against Philadelphia, but they had to do so in a dramatic fashion. In the tenth inning, the Mets won 5-4 in the first leg.

Here are three watershed moments that led to Sunday night’s win.

3. HR Director Nick Plummer associated with the game

The Mets trailed 4-3 at the bottom of the ninth inning, and the first batter on the board was rookie Nick Plummer. He didn’t have to wait long, seeing the first pitch thrown by Phillies loyal Cory Nebel and sending him deep into the right-hand stands at Citi Field to tie the match.

This was also the first success of Plummer’s career. Plummer is now the first dead team to score a home run as his first since Jeremy Hefner did in 2012. Ironically, it also happened on May 29.

2. Eduardo Escobar Snow Cone Fishing in Extras

With the game sent into additional innings, this meant that each team hitting had an automatic runner per second. New York loyalist Edwin Diaz had to face Philadelphia player Nick Schwarber. On court four, Schwarber fired a foul ball toward the nearby bunker. Chasing the third baseman next, the Mets reached over the fence and managed to pick up the snow cone to secure the exit.

It wouldn’t be the last time Escobar played the hero on Sunday night.

1. Eduardo Escobar Award Winning Song

With the runners in first and second with one exit, Escobar climbed to the plate and hit one kick from Knebel into the right field, which bounced out of Odubel Herrera’s reach. This allowed Starling Mart to score and secure a 5-4 win.

It was a great night for the Mets. Not so for Velez, who was three teams away from a 4-3 win.
