Gio Urshela reveals mixed feelings about Yankees trading

While Gio Urshela has had plenty of time to adjust to his time with the Minnesota Twins, the trade away from the Yankees is still painful.

Urshela said he was initially “confused” with the Yankees’ decision to trade with him, but he’s gotten over it largely with the Twins, who now lead AL Central. The deal so far has been a win-win for both teams, with Urshela and Sanchez as an integral part of Minnesota’s winning baseball team.

As for the Yankees, while Josh Donaldson added to the chaos in the Bronx, Isiah Keener-Valiva was a solid defensive addition in short order.

Prior to the series, Urcella explained how he had adapted to no longer a Yankee.

“It will be fun to play against my old teammates. So many memories of the good times, the past three years,” Orcella said. “I mean, every year I play there comes to mind, I spend a lot of time there. My best year in my career has been with the Yankees. So it will be fun.”

Yankees: Jiu Orchila’s conflicting feelings make sense

Urshela is relishing the chance to take on his former team in the post-season, as is any former prospect being traded away for a perceived promotion.

“Yeah, that would be fun,” Ursella said.

While the initial plan was for Geo to play a short role as a fill-in until the likes of Anthony Volpi were ready to make it to the big, when the IKF became available, New York couldn’t turn down the opportunity.

“The other day they said I was going to play a short game,” Urchela said. “And the next day I had a new team.”

As a result, New York acquired some of Donaldson’s contracts, and Orcella shipped with Sanchez to Minnesota. The results of the said trade are still being processed.
