Rory McIlroy defended his title at the RBC Canadian Open on Sunday, but what he said next should scare the rest of the golfers.
Everyone wants to focus on Rory McIlroy who trolls Greg Norman with his 21st win, but this victory reinforces something deeper inside of him that’s about to blow the golf world’s mind.
Most golf fans and insiders think that the dwarf’s job was the best part of his interview with CBS Sports’ Amanda Renner, but in fact, the most compelling part in the question came after the hot topic quote.
He made a quote that would excite his fans and scare off competitors. McIlroy has reignited his love of golf in a way that allows him to be as open and free on the court as he did earlier in his career.
Sure, we’ve heard it a million times, but his tone sent chills down my spine, and there’s an inner feeling that McIlroy is about to take control again.
While some will say don’t get your hopes up too much about him saying what he did, I think this time is different.
There is an ongoing war between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf, and while everyone is entitled to their own decision and opinion – he took it personally and has something personal to prove to himself.
When he said, “I rededicated myself to the game a little bit; I kind of realized what made me happy, and that makes me happy.”
This statement is the breadwinner for the entire interview.

We all know that Mcllroy is one of the best golfers in the world, and his biography proves it. Nor has he been the dominant and aggressive golfer he was earlier in his career in recent years.
Even when he won more than five times on the PGA Tour or FedEx Cup title – it wasn’t the Roars who kept running and almost won the major championships.
What happened to him? Life and other things have shown him that golf isn’t always the first thing, but now that it’s a routine with his family, he can refocus on the game he loves.
Have we heard all about rebooting before? Yes, but when he said that, his game wasn’t quite as high as it is now. McIlroy continues to evolve like many greats you have in the past.
He did the marriage thing, being the father, but now he can do the golf stuff again without feeling guilty for leaving his wife and daughter. Not that he has, but some of the videos and other content I’ve seen when he tells Poppy, “That was when my dad was good,” broke your heart because it’s too good to be true not to dominate the PGA Tour.
This fire was extinguished for a while, and anyone watching golf could see it. Not many people think we’ll ever see what young Rory did again, but I’m afraid I must disagree.
Maybe it’s Kool-Aid’s talk, but something about how he says it makes me happy, and the final tone tells me he’s feeling that way again. McIlroy knows he has that itch to win, and it’s the same itch that every professional golfer has, but when it comes down to it, it’s different.
Even without those flames, he was able to do something that only five other players had done before he turned 34, which is over 4 starting players and over 21 victories.
So even though he’s not the player, we all fell in love, and it shows just how talented McIlroy is on the golf course. There’s a reason he loves Tiger Woods, and that’s because they share the same love, determination, and passion for the game.
Now that he has that “incentive” to succeed again, world watch out.

That feeling didn’t just come from winning last weekend, but I caught on with his rush at the end of the Masters, and it started to slowly boil after a few more rounds of really great golf. Now, it’s overflowing as he became the first player since 1952 to successfully defend his title in Canada, and his game looks good in all aspects.
From the tee, it was absolutely amazing.
The driver has been causing a stir in recent years, but when he feels the big stick, well, the results prove it all.
Over the past weekend, McIlroy is No. 3 on the PGA Tour now in strokes gained off the tee averaging 0.913 to 38 runs for a total of 31.056. He leads the Tour in tee-earned strokes into the green this season with an average of 1.88.
In the tournament, he He led the field in the tee gained by strokes to the green With an average of 3.55. He was No. 6 in strokes he got off the tee with an average of 1.05 and a total of 4.22.

McIlroy would become one of the best players in this game, and this win in Canada could set a fire inside him to go on a great run. We haven’t seen a race outside of Scotty Schaeffler in a while so it would be nice to see McIlroy do that.
For a time, I accepted that McIlroy would be an elite but didn’t have the strength and fire to do what other golf greats have. However, I don’t think so anymore.
Sunday showed us that he still had a lot of golf in his little tank and that although it was close in time, the end is not near in sight.
The way he talks about golf reminds me of the early days. While it may take more convincing than the RBC Canadian Open to win for others to think we’re about to see something great, I’m going to jump on that boat early.
McIlroy is a stud. He is a player from generation to generation who can do bigger things than he has already done. Perhaps McIlroy just needed to remind himself of that. For now, that reminder seems front and center – to achieve whatever goal McIlroy has in mind, it’s best to pin the PGA Tour.
If McIlroy keeps running, he won’t win five times on tour in one season, but it would be something that truly cements his place among the all-time greats.
