The Atlanta Braves should keep a close eye on these three members of the Chicago Caps before the trade deadline.
The Atlanta Braves and Chicago Cubs experience completely different seasons. The two franchises are at different points in their history, with Atlanta looking to defend their title and the Cubs hoping the championship drought will not last for more than 100 more years.
These two clubs will have very different plans for the commercial deadline. Due to this, it can be matched to a huge trade.
With Atlanta in buyer mode and Chicago continuing to sell, what kinds of players can we expect to move from one team to the next?
1) Brave Trade Target for the Cubs: Ian Hap
Ian Hap It might be the most underrated commercial piece in the league this summer. He has a year and a half left of control which helps any comeback the cubs might get if they decide to pull the split rope.
Happ is having another strong year in 2022 and is on his way to achieving career heights in multiple categories. He scored well above the .226 he fought with over the past season and is among the league leaders in OBP. A hitter who has advanced in the latter part of his twenties, what makes him even more desirable is how many positions he can play.
While he’s settled as a starting left-hander this year, Happ has plenty of experience in other positions as well. Atlanta could use a guy like that at the ball club. Their pitch is poor and so is what they have on the field. The loss of Ozzy Albis left some questions at second base. Hap can answer those. On the left field or even the central field, it could be an upgrade for anyone else they could put there.
It may take a long time to pull him away from the cubs. Depending on what they’ve done off-season, they may not be willing to tear it all apart again.
