Veteran goalkeeper Goran Dragic is the latest free agent signing made by the Chicago Bulls.
After a frustrating split last season between the Toronto Raptors and the Brooklyn Nets, longtime Miami Heat guard Goran Dragic will play for the Chicago Bulls.
Shams Al-Sharaniah of The Athletic and Stadium reported on Sunday afternoon that Dragic was indeed signing with Chicago. It would be for a one-year deal worth $2.9 million. This will be the 36-year-old’s season outside of Slovenia, as well as his 15th season in the league. Chicago is now the sixth NBA franchise that Dragic will play for after spending the bulk of his career in Miami and Phoenix.

Now that he’s found a new team to play for next season, what will Dragic provide for Chicago?

While Dragic is no longer close to an All-Star level player who was in his late twenties and early thirties, when he’s healthy, he can provide a team he plays with for 25 minutes or so per game from his combo guard position. Dragic has always been able to grab a bucket and should be able to thrive in support of the Lonzo Ball in Chicago, perhaps playing some big minutes alongside him as well.
With Nikola Vucevic being a big advocate of bringing him to The Windy City, the other big thing that Dragic has to be able to provide for the Bull is some of that winning culture he was a part of in Miami. Chicago should be a playoff team in the Eastern Conference this year, but the Bulls may have the talent to win a post-season series or two, if they can build on last season’s success.
Ultimately, this move is all about depth and veteran experience above all else. If the Bulls are expecting to count on Dragic for the big moments at this point in his career, they will reap what they sow. On the contrary, it is Dragic’s wealth of knowledge in these large positions that can help the Bulls get past the top in what appears to be a difficult Eastern Conference at the moment.
For dollar amount and duration, adding a veteran like Dragic is a good deal for a bull.
