The Kansas City Royals will be missing nearly a dozen players this weekend when they face the Toronto Blue Jays in Canada this weekend due to their unprotected players.
Kansas City Royals announced to reporters, including Jeff Bassan from ESPN10 players on their roster will not be able to travel to Toronto this weekend when the club faces the Toronto Blue Jays.
More importantly, this 10 player list includes just about every major putter on the court and the top two bowlers in the Royals list. Not great.
The Kansas City Royals property in Toronto will be destroyed this weekend
With 10 players added to the restricted list, all 10 Kansas City Royals players will sacrifice their salary for the weekend and will not accumulate any MLB service time either.
These are the ten players:
- Catchers (2): MG Melendez, Cam Gallagher
- Outfielders (5): Wyatt Merifield, Andrew Benintende, Michael A. Taylor, Kyle Isbel, Hunter Dozier.
- Starting pitchers (2): Brad Keeler, Brady Singer
- Relief Jugs (1): Dylan Coleman
Prior to the Royal Family, there were 25 players combined on opposing teams who were denied entry to Canada (plus one player sent to minor leagues).
As for the Royal Family, Wyatt Merrifield has been unable to play due to a toe injury he sustained on Sunday. He missed their two-header double on Monday, breaking his 553-game winning streak. However, we now know that the streak was going to end anyway with him unable to travel to Toronto.
Benintende is the club’s only star so he will have three days off before the All-Star celebrations in Los Angeles. He’s a free agent at the end of the season and with the Royals not in playoff competition, the number of teams the Royals can trade in could be affected by his status, especially for teams playing the Blue Jays in Toronto later. this year.
With the moves, the royals will be in a very difficult situation, as they will have to summon 10 players from Triple-A or Double-A and may even have to do some 40-player roster moves.
