UFC 279: Daniel Rodriguez defeats Li Jingliang.
Daniel Rodriguez defeated Li Jingliang by split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28), at UFC 279 on Saturday, September 10, 2022, live from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
“This is my second fight within 24 hours of notice. Really no preparation. Just go in there and deal with business,” Rodriguez said. Jingliang and Rodriguez were not originally scheduled to fight at UFC 279. It was originally supposed that Jingliang is fighting Tony Ferguson in the welterweight fight.While Rodriguez was supposed to fight Kevin Holland.After Khamzat Chimaev lost weight severely, the UFC had to modify the UFC 279 card.
The two fighters came out throwing in the first minute. Rodriguez had a clear advantage in size while Jingliang had a clear speed advantage. The two fighters continued to exchange kicks and punches throughout the round. Rodriguez landed more aggressively throughout the tour. Near the end of the first round, Jingliang brought down Rodriguez with a leg kick.
Jingliang was even bolder in starting the second round, mixing in kicks with his punches. Rodriguez continued to achieve success with his kicks. Jingliang was alternating positions as he looked to confuse Rodriguez. Rodriguez landed a punch but immediately, Jingliang landed with two left hands that changed the momentum. Rodriguez took a head kick but Jingliang grabbed her leg in the road and threw him to the ground just before the trumpet.
Rodriguez pushed forward to start the third round. The fighters continued to exchange blows and kicks. Jingliang fired three punches and continued to achieve success with his shot in the early minutes of the round. Rodriguez landed with a big hit and started pushing forward again, continuing to have success with his hits. Rodriguez landed over 50 shots fired during the fight.
With his win, Rodriguez won four straight wins and improved to 17-2. Since making his UFC debut in 2020, Rodriguez has won seven of his eight fights. Jingliang dropped to 19-8 after the loss.
