Brown’s player got the highest score in his first week in the PFF as he crushed Baker Mayfield

To add insult to injury, Miles Jarrett earned a 94.4 PFF score – the highest score in Week 1 – for taking down Carolina Panthers quarterback Baker Mayfield.

It’s a special reel for ages – or for the first week at least.

Here are the highest-rated PFF players of the first week on full screen, captured in all their glory. Chiefs Cornerback L’Jarius Sneed got a 90.0, in part for taking down Kyler Murray in a beautiful lightning strike. Although New England lost to Tua Tagovailoa, the Patriots defense Deatrich Wise Jr. He grabbed the ball from his hands – Wise got a 90.2 for that.

Three minutes of flawless play from the best players in the league, who have outperformed expectations.

And according to PFF analysis, no one has done better than to end Brown’s defense of Miles Garrett.

Garrett scored a 94.4 for sending the Panthers quarterback into another dimension during the first week game, which was billed as a revenge game for Mayfield.

Instead, Garrett Mayfield attacked with vengeance, scoring two bags, a forced fumble, three tackles for a loss, two quarterback hits, one defensive pass, and four single tackles.

Garrett spent a full day on Sunday, leading Brown’s team to victory in the game 26-24.

Myles Garrett PFF score determines how much Baker Mayfield, Panthers have destroyed

Given the dramatic highs and lows seen on the field, the tensions that arise in the locker room tend to exacerbate and fuel games of revenge. Zadarius Smith did not like how the beavers treated him. Baker Mayfield has made it clear that he doesn’t like the way things have gone with Brown.

So when Miles Garrett spotted the wind that Mayfield was said to have vowed to “raise” in the first week, he had the following to say:

Mayfield later said he never said the original statement, but that the fuse was already on fire.

Dislikes aside, Garrett has been the dominant hold on the position since being named #1 overall by Brown in 2017 (ironically, Mayfield was named #1 in 2018).

Here’s some context on Garrett’s game, per lead PFF NFL analyst Sam Monson:

“Very little separates Garrett and TJ Watt as currently the best rim rusher in the NFL. Over the past two seasons, Garrett has had the best sprint win rate (22.6%) among runners-up, narrowly ahead of Watt. He also leads the league in pass wins. She didn’t develop pressure because the midfielder had already cleared the ball.”

With TJ Watt out for the next six weeks with a chest muscle injury, this year could be Garrett’s year ranked number one in the rankings.

However, he may never regain the advantage he felt in the first week against his former Mayfield teammate.
