On Friday during the first game of the NL Wildcard series between the Cardinals and the Phillies, an unexpected champion appeared.
Rookie Juan Ypez came to the plate as a designated racket in a 0-0 match in the seventh inning. He broke two home runs on his first swing.

Yepez gave the Cardinals the lead, becoming the first player in STL post-season history to pinch the green light in the post-season at home. He is the second player in history To hit a hard kick at home in a 0-0 match in the seventh game or thereafter.
Nobody liked seeing it more than Albert Pujols and Yadir Molina.
It’s great to see the enthusiasm of two veterans about to retire. They literally cheer for the next generation of Cardinals like Yepez, who got his first chance to make his mark on St. Louis baseball’s history.
