Bryce Young, CJ Stroud should look over their shoulders at Hendon Hooker

It’s still early days, but Hendon Hooker plays Bryce Young and CJ Stroud’s Heisman Trophy at the quarterback center for the growing Tennessee Volunteers.

As long as the Tennessee Volunteers continue to win games, volunteers behind quarterback Hendon Hooker has every reason to believe he will be invited to the Heisman Cup gala with the likes of Bryce Young and CJ Stroud.

Although Young of Alabama Crimson Tide faces Falls Hooker next week for the third Saturday in October, it’s very difficult to replicate that in the Heisman race. New is always better, and Young was a shining star last year. While the Stroud and Ohio State Buckeyes are looking strong in the Big Ten country, you can’t deny what Hooker is doing in his second season with Josh Heupel in Tennessee.

Although the Vols invade then no. 20 Florida Two weeks ago, the Gators might be the fourth best team in the Eastern SEC this season. While beating a major competitor is a huge deal for Huebel, Hooker and the company, for the Foles to beat Alabama and Georgia with any regularity, they won’t be headed to Atlanta anytime soon. The good news is that Hooker can change all of that.

Alabama and Georgia are still undefeated, but teams like Arkansas, Kent State, Missouri and Texas gave those two problems to the Southeast in the early part of the season. At some point, one of them will get it wrong, perhaps before they meet each other in Atlanta with the SEC Championship on the line. Meanwhile, Hooker and Tennessee need to keep doing something.

If Tennessee wins 10-2 and Hooker plays well against Alabama and Georgia, he will go to New York.
