It’s not a new season for Alabama fans, but it definitely feels like after losing on the road to Tennessee.
For the first time since Nick Saban called Tuscaloosa home, he lost the tide on the third Saturday in October. It was one of the most exciting college football games of the season, as the Tennessee Volunteers stunned the No. 3 Alabama seed Crimson Tide in the final game of the game, 52-49. While Tennessee is impressed, can Alabama still make it to the playoff?
It may not be in the Saban team cards, but that’s what it will take for Crimson Tide to return to the College Football Playoff this holiday season.
What Alabama Should Do To Conduct College Football Game After Tennessee Loss
At 6-1 (3-1) on the season, that’s what Alabama has to navigate to become a four-team stadium.

- Week Nine: Bye
- Week 10: At LSU Tigers (11/5)
- Week 11: At Ole Miss Rebels (11/12)
- Week 12: Against Austin B Governors (11/19)
- Week 13: Against the Auburn Tigers (11/26)
- SEC Championship: Atlanta (12/3)
In all likelihood, Alabama could have two more wins over the seeded teams in Mississippi State and Ole Miss. They’ll help boost Crimson Tide’s resume a bit, but they can get in if they win. Alabama needs to finish the regular season at 11-1 (7-1) by defeating Mississippi State, at LSU, at the Ole Miss, Austin Peay and Auburn. They will need to win the SEC West title for sure.
No, it doesn’t matter if Tennessee goes on to win the SEC East title. A neutral spot win over the Vols or Georgia Bulldogs would make Crimson Tide SEC Champions for the third year in a row. At 12-1 (7-1) and the best Power Five Conference winners, Alabama will run as a second seed, perhaps no worse than third. Simply put, they will not participate in general. Here’s why.
Since Tennessee plays in the other division, there’s no way Alabama can’t finish the regular season at 11-1 (7-1) and not be a SEC West Division Champions team champion. Plus, they have to beat the likes of Mississippi schools to get there. Most importantly, they have to beat Georgia or Tennessee in the rematch to be in the four-team field. These are similar bets from last season.
Alabama controls his own destiny, but Tide must win and defeat three other ranked teams.
