2022 NFL Power Rankings, Week 9:49 lap, Bengals rolled

There weren’t a lot of big surprises around the league in Week 8. There wasn’t a lot of movement when it came to the latest NFL Power Rankings.

Some things never change in the NFL. The Cardinals haven’t won in Minnesota since 1977. You still have to go back to 1965 to find out the last time the Steelers came out winning in Philadelphia. The Patriots continue to own the New York Jets and the 49ers continue to have the Rams’ number — at least during the regular season.

It was a good week for most of the teams at the helm of their teams entering the week. Were there any drastic changes to this week’s NFL Power Rankings?

Detroit Lions 1-6

last week: L, 31-27 vs MIA
last order: 32

The Lions were hoping to end their recent offensive problems when they hosted the Dolphins. Detroit had a 27-17 lead at the break and had an impressive total of 326 yards in the first two quarters.

But the more generous NFL defense allowed Miami’s Tua Tagovailoa to throw for 382 yards and three points. Jared Goff passes for 321 yards and Dan Campbell plays volley-free football. But the Lions allowed a total of 476 yards in this latest loss.

Houston Texas 1-5-1

last week: L, 17-10 against TEN
last order: 31

The Texans were coming off a loss to the Conquistadors and hosted the rising Titans. And once again, the NFL’s worst-ranked running defense was embarrassed by Derek Henry and the Tennessee ground offensive.

Houston was stormed for 314 yards to the ground, so Luffy Smith’s team took the football for just 25:12. The overpowered Texans were a mere 2 of 14 in third (2 of 2 in fourth) and finished the game with 10 points and 161 total yards.

Jacksonville Jaguars 2-6

last week: Lamm, 21-17 vs Dunn (London)
last order: 29

Doug Pederson’s club had been hoping to end the losing streak in four games in London. Travis Etienne had more flowing yards (156) than Trevor Lawrence through the air (133). The latter gave the team an early advantage via a 22-yard TD strike to Evan Engram.

Down 14-10, Etienne’s one-yard run with 3:54 to play gave Jaguars the lead. But the defense couldn’t stop Denver’s 80-yard drive. Falling from four with 1:43 to play, Lawrence threw his second pick in the game.

29

Pittsburgh Steelers 2-6

last week: L, 35-13 in PHI
last order: 26

The Lions and Golds made their way across the state to Philadelphia and were hoping to hand the Eagles their first loss in 2022. The Pittsburgh defense simply had no answers for the combination of Galen Hurts and AJ Brown.

The first burned Pittsburgh for 285 yards in the air and four degrees – three for Brown. Meanwhile, rookie quarterback Kenny Beckett made two extra runs and was sacked six times as Mike Tomlin’s side were roughed up again.
