Patriots fans couldn’t believe their eyes when Gillette aired an ad featuring Bills QB Josh Allen while tilting on Thursday Night Football with Buffalo.
There aren’t many brands associated with the NFL team like Gillette and the Patriots. The Razor brand has owned the naming rights to New England Stadium since its first season in 2002.
So why on earth would they have Bills quarterback Josh Allen star in an ad that aired during the Thursday Night Football game between the Patriots and Buffalo?
That’s what fans have been asking after watching Allen cook with two touchdowns and 118 yards in the first half, and then having to watch him during commercial breaks, too.
Josh Allen’s Gillette ad infuriated Patriots fans
It was bad enough that Gillette had hired a rival team to the Patriots as spokesperson, and New England also had to put up with that as Allen fell short of the Bills to lead 17-7 at halftime.
Allen’s performance made Twitter talk of his own, especially after Stefon Diggs hit a touchdown and followed that up with a pointless throw to Gabe Davis.
Fans at Gillette Stadium weren’t too pleased with their team’s halftime performance on Thursday night. Mac Jones partnered with Marcus Jones for a 48-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter to put them up 7-3 but it was all Allen from there. His second quarter touchdown gave Buffalo a 17-7 lead.
New England had a chance to reduce the deficit before halftime thanks to a forced fumble by Josh Uche on Allen. However, Nick Folk missed a 48-yard field goal attempt after the Patriots offense was unable to create a rushing touchdown.
