Do Boston Red Sox recruit Dansby Swanson? Alex Cora recently followed Swanson on Instagram, hinting at some interest between the two.
Dansby Swanson is the best remaining shortstop in the free agent market. Red Sox Xander Bogaerts lost to San Diego Padres. Something must be given.
Swanson will be an easy fix for Boston and Chaim Bloom, plus it will come at a discount. The signing would allow Trevor Story to remain at second base, with a reliable shortstop defensive force to take over. Boston has some concerns about Storey’s range in office, but that’s not the case with Dansby.
Boston coach Alex Cora recently Follow Swanson on Instagram. Although no guarantee means anything, social media can be a calculated way to show interest, when necessary.
Should the Red Sox sign Dansby Swanson?
Boston almost seems bullied for their own good in Dansby Swanson.
Haim Bloom went into this season with almost no plan. Once they lost Xander Bogaerts to the San Diego Padres, Bloom was beside himself – shocked that Bogaerts would take the best offer in front of him to play with a better team.
Swanson’s signing saves some face for the Sox, and allows them to avoid taking a massive step back. In some ways, Boston could be a better team next season if they use the money Bogart turned down to make the right decisions.
These decisions should include bringing in a first-rate short game, increasing the level of play in their starting rotation, and tending to any pitching concerns. In some ways, they’ve already done the latter with Kenley Jansen.
Swanson could benefit from the best offensive season of his career. He made his one and only NL All-Star team in 2022. Atlanta seems unwilling to pay his asking price just yet, which means the Red Sox are among several teams looking to poach him far from his roots in Georgia.
